MNF Rivalry Test

It was a battle during Monday Night Football on ESPN as the Redskins had a hard loss to their division rivals 18-16 in Dallas. Cowboys ended up winning the game by kicking all field goals and not being able to finish with a touchdown in the red zone the entire game. Washington had an attempt to extend their lead even more in the first half around 6:30 left with a 36 yard field goal by Graham Gano but it was blocked. The game was an intense rivalry and it dropped the Redskins down to a three-way tie with Dallas and New York within the NFC East. Each team fought to the end with an upsetting interception thrown by Rex Grossman with about 30 seconds left in the game.

The Redskins fought hard and with the way they looked last night, they are going to back to their old ways which no fan ever wanted to see again. They play the Rams on Sunday at St. Louis and I hope they can come out on top and pick back up their spirits going into their bye week. It was a hard, tough, fight of a game by both sides and the Redskins just did not have what it takes to make things finish successfully in their favor. I want to see them do well this season and I think they can turn things around and not let this one loss tear them down to much.

Buffalo and Washington 2-0?

It is the end of week 2 and only 7 remaining NFL teams have an undefeated record. To very much surprise, the Redskins and Bills are two of the contending teams right now along with the Jets, Patriots, Lions, Texans and Packers. The Redskins and Bills have made a huge comeback seeing as during the past couple of seasons they have suffered with records finishing under 500. After a difficult game on Sunday with the Redskins only beating the Cardinals 22 to 21, they have a big game coming up on Monday night against their division rivals in Dallas. The Bills played Oakland and won by a 3 point margin 38 to 35 on Sunday afternoon and take on the overbearing Patriots next weekend.

The teams are both playing good contenders that could go either way depending on which "teams" show up to give it their all at the starting time. The Skins have the Monday night football spot and can make big plays against the Cowboys as long as the entire team has the passion and determination to win in Dallas. The Bills play at 1 o'clock at home and should stay strong if they want to show the NFL that they are a good contender and a team to be afraid of during this upcoming season. These games should both stay interesting and I am interested to see what teams stay strong as more weeks continue to pass by with different opponents.

Hokies begin season 3-0

Virginia Tech pulls off the win 26-7 in Blacksburg, VA today against Arkansas State. They have played Appalachian State and East Carolina University in the beginning of the season and have one more out of conference game at Marshall next weekend. The Hokies have outscored their opponents this season 109-30 and although they have been playing really well, their schedule only gets tougher after next weekend's opponent.  After the past couple of seasons usually losing the first couple of games to out of conference teams, such as Alabama, Boise State, and ECU to name a few, the Hokies have done a lot better this season and started off on the right foot.

I am excited to see the Hokies go all the way this year to the ACC championship and a FBS bowl game in the post season. Even though they have lost a few season opening games, they have always gone above .500 since joining the ACC. Virginia Tech is looking fantastic season and I hope they keep the momentum high as conference play begins soon because that is when it really matters. They have all the heart, dedication and passion to succeed and I know they will go far with their fan base behind them 110% supporting them no matter how the outcome ends this season.  Football has officially begun on every level and I can't wait to see how my teams grow over the next couple of months on the road to a lot of victories.

Are the playoffs moving out of reach for Boston?

This afternoon the Boston Red Sox lost a game 4-3 to the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa, Florida. That puts the Sox 4.5 games behind the Yankees for control of the AL East and only 3 games in the lead for the race of the Wild Card. Boston had a very rough start this season by going only 2-8 in the first 10 games. It was not until game 17 where things started moving up for them and their record at the All Star Break was 55-35. They have had their ups and downs all season and have kept steady to stay in the race the entire time. There is 11 games left in the regular season and they have to finish out the series with the Rays, play the Orioles twice and have one more series against the Yankees. These last games are going to be the ones that are definitely the deciding factor and each game they are going to have to play their hearts out to make it to October 8th when the ALCS begins.

I think the Red Sox can pull it off to play past their last game with just a lot of heart and determination. It is going to be hard seeing as their last 6 games are on the road  but they have the passion and fan base to help push them through it and get them farther. It will be interesting to watch and I hope that I can see them as a main contender for the World Series this year. The main shirt this year too has been '04 + '07 = '11 and hopefully this is true. Boston has been able to do it before and I know this year will not be any different because there is no way that they could sit out two years in a row of the playoffs with all of the talent on their roster. The pitching needs to stay strong and our field contenders on point and the playoffs will be in Boston's hands.

SRU graduate makes Vikings Roster

On Saturday, September 3, 2011, it was official that Slippery Rock University graduate, Brandon Fusco, had made the Minnesota Vikings 2011 roster. He was a very recognized player on the field as a Rock player and in his senior season made honors that set records very high for players after him. Just in his senior year, he had been invited to participate in the Under Armour Senior Bowl and invited to NFL Scouting Combine.

I am very interested to see all that Fusco does this upcoming season on the Vikings team. I think he will make a big name for himself and be able to continue his succeeding tradition like he did while playing college ball for SRU. He has definitely put SRU on the map after achieving so much and I know that he will continue to do make big plays and follow his dreams. Make sure to watch the Vikings first game this Sunday at 3:15 when they travel to San Diego, California to take on the Chargers.
