As of Saturday, October 30, 2011 around 5:30 pm, it was official that Slippery Rock University's Rock Football Team had won the PSAC West. It was a goal that they had trying to reach for almost 10 years and this program pulled out the final win they needed to receive the rings on Saturday afternoon. It was an intense battle between the Rock and Mercyhurt and neither team was going to give up until the final horn blew at the end of the fourth quarter. The atmosphere on the sidelines was incredible and the boys knew in their hearts that they wanted this more than anything! The final score was 28-21 and it ended with Slippery Rock picking off a final pass by the quarterback with 15 seconds remaining.
I personally have witnessed how hard this team has worked the past two years since I have started volunteering with them. They still have a long way to go if they want to end up making it to the D2 National Championship. They have one more regular season game to play away at Gannon on Saturday. The Rock will travel to the PSAC East champion on November 12 to compete for the title of PSAC. As of right now, it looks like they will be traveling to Kutztown or Bloomsburg, since they are tied for 1st in the PSAC East.
I hope these boys will be able to pull off these wins the next two weeks. They have a lot of hard work to do to make it farther but if they keep up their determination and passion, it can be accomplished this season! I cannot wait to see what they do and cheer them on as they finish with such high success this season! GO ROCK!
I honestly haven't followed the football team much since I came here last year but I am certainly happy for the team. Winning the conference is not an easy task and should not be taken lightly. I hope they get the recognition they deserve and the fan support throughout the playoffs. Go Rock! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI have not kept up with the Slippery Rock Football team and did not know they were this good. I hope they go deep in the playoffs and win a championship. It would be great for the University. I wish them all the best!
